Here at Go Cyber Hype, our WordPress website clients have always benefited from robust, secure hosting and carefully selected security tools that protect their sites without compromising performance. Historically, we’ve used Wordfence to monitor and manage on-site WordPress security.
As websites, search engines, and security threats continue to evolve, we regularly review the tools we use to ensure they remain the best fit for our clients.
Why We’re Introducing MalCare
Wordfence performs all security scanning and filtering directly on the website. While this approach is effective, it can add server load and, in some cases, impact website speed. Since site speed is one of the most important factors in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), we’ve been looking for a solution that provides strong protection while reducing on-site processing.
Another consideration is flexibility. While Wordfence does offer premium plans, the cost jump for more advanced protection and faster rule updates can be quite steep — particularly for smaller websites and local businesses.
After careful testing and comparison, we’ve decided that MalCare offers a better balance of performance, protection, and scalability for the majority of our clients.
What This Means for Existing Clients
Over the next couple of months:
Clients on a Digital Care Plan will be:
- Moved from Wordfence to MalCare Free
- Added to our central MalCare management console
- Monitored in the same proactive way you’re used to (No action needed on your part)
New WordPress websites will be set up with MalCare as standard.
Clients not on a Digital Care Plan:
- Will continue running Wordfence for the time being
- Can switch to MalCare at any time for a one-off £30 setup fee
- There is no requirement to upgrade beyond the free version unless you feel it’s right for your website.
Optional Upgrades for Enhanced Security
For existing clients who want enhanced protection, deeper monitoring, and automatic malware cleanup, MalCare offers paid plans that can be purchased directly.

Why We Recommend This Approach
With the constant background noise of attempted hacks, malicious login attempts, spam injections, and malware arriving via email attachments and compromised plugins, proactive monitoring is more important than ever.
By moving core scanning off the website and onto dedicated security servers, MalCare allows us to:
- Reduce unnecessary server load
- Maintain fast page speeds
- Monitor sites more efficiently
- Clean up issues quickly if they ever occur
This change is about quietly improving protection, not reacting to a crisis.
